Black and Sparkly

I can't believe it has been over a month since I posted an entry.  Believe me, I have so many ideas, but I have to figure out a way to get my thoughts out of my head and into this blog.  I also need to invest in a better camera so I can post some better quality pix of my outfits.

I wore this on Christmas Eve to a family event. I was probably overdressed for the occasion, but I wanted to get a picture of myself in the outfit. I actually wore the same exact outfit a few weeks ago to the company holiday party.  But I like the way I wore it this go 'round.  Different earrings and different shoes...

Anyway, I really lucked out with these two pieces.  I got the top from Express a few years ago and the pants from H&M in New York a few weeks ago.  Both pieces have sequins on the front and no sequins on the back so it looks like they were made for each other.  I looked like a walking disco ball...in black.

Here's a closer look at the shoes. "Beccalyn" by Enzo Angiolini.

Taking it Down a Notch

Okay, so I’m going to start embracing lower-heeled shoes.  I’ve abused my feet over the years with my high heels, pointy shoes, etc., so I think it’s time to take things down a notch.

In recent months, I came across a Nine West style – a basic pump with a very manageable heel.  The shoes are pretty comfortable and they come in so many cute styles and colors.  The style is “Flax” and can be found at 6pm, Amazon, etc.  I love the style so much, that I have about 6 pairs in different colors and patterns, and I’ve gotten a few of them for as little at $20.00-$30.00.

This animal print is one of my more recent acquisitions and also one of my favorites.

I also love these:

Now that’s not to say that I’m going to give up the sky high stilettos.  It just means that I’m taking some steps to take care of my feet.

You can still be fabulously fashionable with lower heels.

Masquerade Ball

This past Saturday I attended a masquerade party with some friends. I was excited for the opportunity to dress up. (Which you know I LOVE to do.)

I wore a dress that I've had in my closet for over 3 years - brand new, tags attached, but I never got around to wearing it.

Brooklyn Jersey

This morning I had to run some errands and decided to ditch my weekend uniform, which usually consists of a random t-shirt, jeans, and flip flops.

My friends over at Viacom sent me a jersey from the VMA's in August.  I LOVE IT!!! It's particularly meaningful because Brooklyn is my hometown...

Press "Repeat"

So we live in an era where everyone wants to be fabulous and the goal is to emulate the rich and famous.  It's easy to fall into that trap and aspire to amass a large quantity of material things - especially if you're one who is a lover of 'visual representation.'  Believe me - if I had unlimited resources, I would probably never wear the same thing twice.  HOWEVER, I have responsibilities and obligations which force me to rein in my spending.

And I don't know about you, but this age of social media forces us to be conscious of what we wear, how many times we're being photographed in the same clothes, and where those pictures appear.  I'll admit, I have thought twice about wearing something I've worn before, because I don't want the outfit(s) to appear on Facebook repeatedly.  But, I've gotten to the point where I'm starting to rebel against that.

So what if I wear something more than once!  That's the reality of the majority of people, I'm guessing, in this world.  For those who can afford to wear a new outfit or pair of shoes every single day, that's great, but that's not my world - at least at this point in my life.
I will continue to be as fabulous as I can on MY budget, and remix and rework my wardrobe as much as I can.  So you will see me wearing the same thing more than once, or twice, etc.  Now, I do try to not wear things the same way repeatedly, because I think it's important to mix and match to give the appearance of a bigger wardrobe.  PLUS, there are certain pieces that I just LOVE. I will continue to 'press repeat' and work my wardrobe and still be fashionably fabulous!

This is dedicated to all the fabulous working women who love fashion and have to remain realistic about their budgets and lifestyles.

My look for the VMA's in Brooklyn!

I was fortunate enough to get tickets to the MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn, New York, my hometown.  One of my goals is to get a high quality camera to capture some of my looks.  But until then, please bear with the quality of some of the photos that I post...

I saw this skirt on Folake Huntoon of Style Pantry. She wore this on New Year's Eve in 2012.  When I saw the skirt, I almost died -knew I had to get it.  It was a little on the expensive side, but I followed it for several months until it went on sale. It's currently one of my favorite pieces.

It's Been a While...

I struggle with finding the time to do the the things I love and I struggle with consistency.  But one thing remains consistent - my love for fashion.

I believe that looking good is directly correlated to how you feel about yourself.  It can also help shape peoples' opinions about you.  It shows that you care.  Looking good and being fashionable does not have to take tons of money, nor does it have to take a lot of time.  Once you invest the time in selecting pieces that work for your body type and work well together, you can create a variety of looks quite easily.

My goal is to post a few lines that express how I feel about fashion, tips that I stumble upon, and share some pix that show how I do it.  I get a lot of positive feedback about my sense of style and I want to have more of a forum to share my perspective.

My goal is to publish consistently, and I will keep trying until I get it right.
