Testing...1, 2, 3

I'm so excited!

I mentioned a while back that my father gave me a nice camera so I can take better pix for my blog.  Well, I've been using it here and there, but my roadblocks have been learning how to use it and getting a willing participant to photograph me.  My father showed me how to use the timer function on the camera, and then I asked if he knew anything about using a remote control device for the camera.  My father is a "gadget guy," so a few minutes later, he emerged with a camera remote. THANKS DAD!

So these pix are my first attempt at taking my own shots.  So let's consider this a test.  As I get more comfortable with the camera, its functions, and the remote, I'm sure the quality of my pictures will improve.

Yet another step in the right direction.

When You Find Something You Like, Buy Several...

I mentioned in a previous post, that when I like something I try to either buy it in multiple colors/patterns or I buy more than one of the same item.

Last year I stumbled across a Nine West pump called "Flax."  Flax has a 3 & 3/4" inch heel, which really doesn't seem high, and for me, is comfortable enough to wear all day.  There are probably a thousand different colors/styles/textures available, and I bought most of these last year from Amazon.  Some were as inexpensive at $21.00. You can't beat that.

TIP: When you purchase a pair of shoes with pointy toes, get rubber taps applied to the tips so they don't wear down. It's a pretty small investment, but it makes a huge difference in helping to preserve your shoes.

Take a Cue From Your Shoes

In my most recent post, The Illusion of Abundance: The Basics of Mixing and Matching, I discussed ways to mix and match your garments to create the illusion of a bigger wardrobe.  One tip was to take a cue from your shoes.  If you have a cute pair of shoes with a nice mix of colors or an interesting pattern, they can serve as a starting point to build your outfit.

These are the shoes that I used to create my outfit:

"Flax" by Nine West - available in about 1,000 colors/patterns...

Here's the outfit.  I doubt I would have paired these items if it wasn't for the shoes...

Emergency Purchase

This past Sunday, I participated in a Lady Diamonds Networking Social and conducted a workshop called "The Illusion of Abundance: The Basics of Mixing and Matching." (Workshop recap to follow in a separate post.)

The workshop was in Queens, NY and I actually spent the whole weekend in Brooklyn/Queens. On Friday and Saturday, I celebrated my friend's birthday, and the workshop was on Sunday.

You're not going to believe this, but it wasn't until AFTER dinner on Friday night when I realized that I left the garment bag with my Saturday and Sunday outfits at HOME - in another state!  I briefly considered going home to get my clothes, but decided that the time and expense weren't worth it.

That meant I had to go shopping. Now normally, going shopping wouldn't be an issue AT ALL, but I was under a little pressure.  I didn't know if I'd be able to find something that I'd like/would fit/be reasonably priced/appropriate for my speaking engagement on Sunday.

I went to the Kings Plaza mall, which I haven't been to in YEARS.  It's funny because it has changed in so many ways, but stayed exactly the same in others.  To make a long story short, I wasn't really pleased with the selection of stores or the selection of clothes within the stores, but I was able to pick up a really cute black and white dress from New York & Company

Here are a couple of shots of me in action...
