Cute in the Cold...

It's been extremely cold here on the East Coast.  I've considered foregoing the cuteness factor because it's so frigid.  Here enters the "statement coat."

It's fabulous, it's warm and you can wear just about anything underneath, because the coat is going to turn everything up a notch.

I've also been wearing my over-the-knee boots a lot - for additional leg coverage.

My Hair

I get a lot of compliments and questions about my hair.  Many of the questions are inquiries about how I get my hair to do what it does.  This post provides a step-by-step guide for those who want to know.

1) I get my hair cut by a barber every 3-4 weeks.

This is what my hair looks like right after I've gotten it cut.

He Said, She Said: A Woman is Sexiest When Wearing...

So I was recently telling someone about my personal style evolution and how my fashion preferences have changed over the years.  When I was in my 20's, I was really trying to figure out who I was, and in some respects, trying to prove I was an adult. I wanted to declare to the world that I was a strong, independent, and  sexy woman...or at least I thought I was.  So I pushed the envelope at times, and it was okay for that period in my life - I guess...

I began realizing that sexy means different things to different people, and that sexiness is not necessarily measured by how revealing your clothes are. At this point in my life, I don't always want to/have to put my goods on display.  I want to be a little more mysterious and pique curiosity. That's not to say I won't "put it out there" every now and again, but when I do, it's done more purposefully and strategically.

So, I began wondering - what do my peers and friends consider sexy? I spoke to several males and females - to get both sides of the story - and here's what they had to say.

Blueberries and Grapes

On Friday, my girlfriends and I went out for a pre-Valentine's Day dinner- aka "Galentine's Day."  I think that dinner will be the start of an annual tradition.

I didn't want to wear red, because that would have been too expected.  I decided on "blueberries and grapes" instead.

When I was in New York last month to see The Lion King, I picked up this dress from H&M.  I saw it and instantly fell in love.  I threw a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath for warmth.

Friend or Faux?

I love leather apparel - It adds such an interesting contrast and texture to an outfit, but it can be expensive. In recent years, a number of leather alternatives have been introduced, and the quality has improved significantly as compared to the not-so-soft-and-supple “pleather” that is reminiscent of my adolescence.

These new non-leather options are fantastic.  In some cases, you can’t tell the difference between faux leather and real leather, and these options are so much more affordable...
The keys to selecting faux leather that looks like the real thing are:

a) To find pieces that have some texture. Some of the more realistic looking leather alternatives have characterization, wrinkles, and slight color variations.

b) To select pieces that are butter-soft and supple.

There is no in-between here...

I have recently added a few faux leather pieces to my wardrobe and absolutely love them!  Below is a favorite of mine.  I actually thought it was real when I purchased it.  It's a Vince Camuto dress and I purchased it from Fox's in New York over a year ago.  LOVE this dress, and have styled it various ways.

What I Recently Wore to WERK

I have a Monday through Friday 9-5 gig in Corporate America.  I'm fortunate to have a little latitude in terms of my office attire, so I inject a little personality into my ensembles when and where I can.

Here's a recent outfit that made me feel professional, confident, and fashionable.

Faux leather sleeveless peplum top from H&M. I layered a long-sleeved cropped top underneath for warmth.
