My Hair

I get a lot of compliments and questions about my hair.  Many of the questions are inquiries about how I get my hair to do what it does.  This post provides a step-by-step guide for those who want to know.

1) I get my hair cut by a barber every 3-4 weeks.

This is what my hair looks like right after I've gotten it cut.

Yes, those are grey hairs...and I have earned every single one of them!
2) My hair is very thick and coarse, and has a naturally curly texture.  I throw in a mild relaxer for 5-7 minutes to loosen up and define the curls.

3) After using a neutralizing shampoo and conditioner, I towel dry my hair and apply Queen Helene's Sculpturing Gel and Glaze.

I have tried MANY types of hair gel over the years, but this is the only brand I've come across that does not flake.  I sometimes also apply a moisturizer to my hair to ensure it doesn't get dry. I condition it regularly.

4) I wash my hair every morning in the shower, towel dry, and apply gel.  I work the gel through and brush the sides and back.

These pictures are after I've relaxed my hair and applied gel.

My hair care routine is SOOOOOOOOOOO quick and easy.  I love the freedom and flexibility of wearing my hair this short.  Not only is it convenient -  I really like the way I look with short hair.  Women with short hair exude a confidence and sexiness, which I think is partly associated with going against the "social norm" of equating femininity with the length of a woman's hair.
That's not to say that I won't ever go longer.  I would love to go natural and have my hair wild and free, like YaYa DaCosta's.  But that would take lots of patience, which frankly, I don't think I have.
