Saturday Brunch

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Ebony Magazine "Women Up" Brunch in Philadelphia to honor women of color who are making power moves within various industries. When I was invited, of course, I immediately wondered what I should wear. Since summer is officially over, and the weather has gotten a little chillier, I debated whether I should lean more towards a summer look, or if I should just usher in the fall. I checked the weather and saw that it would get into the 70's at some point during the day, so I decided to try to prolong the summer just a bit longer and wore this gorgeous Eliza J maxi dressI threw on a (faux) leather jacket and patent leather boots to make it a little more fall-like.

I arrived at the brunch a little early and decided to have a cup of coffee at the bar. I wound up having a conversation with a woman who complimented my dress, and she mentioned that she has a similar dress, but the front is a little different. You'll notice that I have a bow in the front, but that's actually the back of the dress. I knew I'd be wearing a leather jacket during the majority of the event and wanted the bow detail to show, so I turned the dress around.
I also threw on a black belt to further highlight the other black accents in the ensemble.

My new acquaintance loved the look and said that she's going to borrow some of my styling tips the next time she wears her dress. That's the beauty of fashion and style - particularly in this day of social media. We are all out here inspiring one another and contributing to the ecosystem of fashion and style. I'm happy to be doing my part.

Keesha Boyd (center), was one of the featured women of distinction at the event. She is flanked by friends who came out to support her.

Oh, and Queen Latifah also wore this dress in the movie, Girls Trip!

Thank you for reading, and please visit me again soon.
