I've compiled a list of the top ten fashion guidelines that I keep in mind while getting dressed. Check them out!
The Fearless Fashionista's Top Ten
1. Get dressed with intent!
Don’t wait until the last minute to throw something together. Be purposeful in how you approach getting dressed, and whatever you decide to wear, don’t forget to throw on a heavy dose of confidence or nobody will believe you.
2. Do a final check before you leave the house
Give yourself a once-over – preferably in the natural light using a full length mirror to make sure your makeup is not too harsh, your clothes aren’t see-through, there are not hanging hems or strings, etc.
3. Don’t be a slave to fashion
Invest your efforts into cultivating a signature style. Whether it’s minimalist or more ostentatious – develop it and own it.
4. Know Yourself
Everything is not for everybody. Just because a garment is made in your size, it doesn’t mean you should wear it. Determine what looks good on you. and use that as a gauge as to whether or not you wear something.
5. Be an original and not a "style stealer"
We all get inspired by someone or something, but blatant fashion forgery is a big NO! Always put your own spin on things and use inspiration to help you be the best version of yourself.
6. Don’t wait for a “special occasion” to wear your nice items
Sometimes that special occasion never comes and your pieces sit and collect dust. Figure out a way to work these pieces into your wardrobe.
7. Wear clothes that align with your values
If a company produces clothing or accessories and you don’t like what they stand for, or they have oppressive or discriminatory practices, move on. Everyone has the right to use the power of the almighty dollar to support or protest the causes that resonate with them.
8. Forget the fashion rules!
Wear what you like and what makes you look and feel good. Don’t let outdated and nonsensical “fashion rules” dictate what you wear. It's after Labor Day and I have on a white skirt today. :-)
9. Purge and Move On
Get rid of items that no longer serve a purpose or make you feel bad about yourself. Your wardrobe should reflect who you are currently and bring joy to your life.
10. Have fun!
Fashion is meant to make you feel good, so if you’re not having fun, then what’s the point? Try new things, allow yourself to be inspired and enjoy the journey!
