Mad About Plaid

I don't wear a lot of suits these days. Corporate attire has gotten a lot more casual over the years, and my job instituted a "jeans" dress code; however, I'm generally on the dressy side at work. Part of the reason is I'm not going to stop wearing my existing wardrobe to accommodate the new dress code, and I actually like being "dressed up." It makes me feel more professional and productive.

I got these awesome cropped plaid pants and blazer from Nordstrom - they're from the Nordstrom private label "Halogen." I wore this look to work earlier in the week and felt very "boss-like."

Cropped pants eliminate me having to worry about whether or not the hemline works well with my shoes, and they also provide an unobstructed view of what I have on my feet, so they're are a win-win for me.
I wore my faux leather sleeveless peplum top with an adjustable skinny belt on top, and completed the look with fishnet socks and flower print pumps, also from Halogen, but a few years old.
The colors in the shoes play off the colors in the plaid print. If you're dipping your toe in the water of pattern mixing, using two different prints that include similar colors is a good way to achieve the look.

I love the oversized menswear-inspired blazer. It's so versatile and I can wear it with so many different things. Having flexible and functional pieces in your wardrobe is a must for mixing and matching.
